Understanding Accident/Incident Trends

Understanding Accident/Incident Trends

On the eylog web system, you have access to Accident/Incident Trends, a tracker that allows you to view the number and type of accidents/incidents that have occurred across your nursery over a set period of time so that you're able to monitor common or recurring incidents.

To view the tracker,  go to the sidebar and click on   Health & Safety > Accident/Incident Trends.

Generating Accident/Incident Trends

When you arrive on the page, you'll be greeted by a number of fields that allow you to adjust what you'll see on the report. Use the From and To fields to select a date range for the data in the tracker, then go through each of the other fields. It should be fairly obvious what each of these fields affect, but the Mode requires a bit more explanation. The Mode field allows you to choose from one of two options that will affect one of the tables on the tracker. Selecting As per room will generate a table displaying the number of accidents/incidents for each room assigned to the children involved. Selecting As per 'Where it happened' will generate a table that displays the number of accidents/incidents for each location recorded in the 'Where it happened' field on the accident/incident sheet (which includes rooms).

When you've adjusted all the filters to your satisfaction, click View to generate the report.

Understanding Accident/Incident Trends

After generating Accident/Incident Trends, you'll see four boxes at the top of the report. These display the number of Accidents, Incidents, Pre-Existing accidents/incidents, and accidents/incidents Which are Riddor Reportable according to the filters you assigned. You should note that the number displayed under Accidents and Incidents do not any include any that are recorded as pre-existing.

Below these four numbers, you'll find two tables. The first table displays a list of accidents/incidents along the left, and injuries along the top. Numbers will be placed in some of the cells so you see the links between incidents and injuries, and how often they occur. The Total number of incidents and injuries are displayed in the bottom-most row and right-most column.

The second table breaks down the number of Accidents, Incidents, Pre-existing accidents/incidents and Riddor-reportable accidents/incidents by either room or location, depending on what you selected for the Mode field. The Total for all nurseries is displayed in the bottom row.
